Developing positive coping strategies is important when faced with a diagnosis of cancer. The treatment course is often lengthy with multiple approaches that cause uncomfortable and embarrassing side effects for a teen or young child.

After Treatment

Getting back to your life after the treatment course can be difficult. Depending on the treatment course that was used you can be faced with short and long term side effects that may prevent you from functioning at your level prior to your diagnosis. Establishing a quality of life can be achieved by complying with following up appointments and adhering to guidelines giving by your care team. A life long follow-up plan is necessary for all children or teens with osteosarcoma. Keeping a written log of all medications, treatments, side effects and appointments is advised to stay on track with the follow up plan. A nutritionist, psychologist, physical and occupational therapist should be a part of the team when developing a follow-up care plan.
